Immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere and uncover the secrets of one of the most mysterious cities in Czechia. Springtime in Kutná Hora offers unique architecture, ancient legends, and an unforgettable ambiance.
Starting Point:
Our guide will be waiting for you in front of your hotel.
Kutná Hora is a place where history breathes at every turn, where medieval streets hold the secrets of centuries past. Here, the grandeur of Gothic architecture, the mystical atmosphere, and breathtaking natural landscapes come together to create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable journey.
Early in the morning, we will depart from Prague, and just over an hour later, after admiring the scenic landscapes of Central Czechia, we will arrive in the heart of a historical region once known throughout Europe for its vast silver wealth. It was here that the famous Prague groschen was minted, making Kutná Hora one of the economic powerhouses of medieval Czechia.
Our first stop is the Sedlec Ossuary, one of the most unusual sites not only in Czechia but in the entire world. This is no ordinary chapel—it is a unique monument adorned with the bones of more than 40,000 people. Inside, you will find a chandelier made from every type of human bone, eerie Gothic garlands of skulls, and mysterious symbols formed from skeletal remains. It is said that this place holds a special energy, with a history dating back to the 14th century when the remains of plague victims and Hussite warriors were brought here. A dark yet mesmerizing sight that invites deep reflection on time and eternity.
Next, we will head to the city of Kutná Hora, once the silver heart of Czechia. Our main destination here is its greatest architectural masterpiece – St. Barbara’s Cathedral. Built by miners in honor of their patron saint, St. Barbara, the protector of miners, this Gothic jewel is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Inside, you’ll marvel at the grandeur of soaring vaults, stunning medieval frescoes, and magnificent stained glass windows that create an atmosphere of both awe and serenity. We will take a stroll through the narrow medieval streets, where the echoes of silver mining once filled the air, and uncover the story of how this city became one of the richest in Europe.
After an exciting exploration, it’s time to relax and savor traditional Czech cuisine. In the heart of the city, cozy restaurants offer authentic dishes prepared using centuries-old recipes. Here, you can indulge in hearty goulash, crispy roasted pork knuckle with dumplings, slow-roasted duck, or famous Czech desserts, all while soaking in views of ancient town squares and Gothic spires.
After lunch, you’ll have free time for personal discoveries. You can browse through unique souvenir shops filled with handmade crafts from local artisans, or take a leisurely walk along the city’s charming riverside, enjoying the tranquility and unique ambiance of this once-magnificent mining town.
As we leave Kutná Hora and return to Prague, we won’t just bring back photos—we’ll carry with us the feeling of having traveled back in time. This is a city where every stone tells a story, where medieval opulence meets mystical legends, and where ancient cathedrals stand as reminders of an era when this part of Czechia shone with silver and prosperity. Kutná Hora is more than just a tour—it’s a journey into the very heart of Czech history, an experience that will leave a lasting impression on every traveler.
