This tour is created especially for lovers. You will walk through the shady alleys of ancient Vysehrad – the place where the legend of Prague was born, where every stone holds a memory and every bench invites you to say ‘I love you’. You will hear touching love stories, see the cathedral where people prayed for the impossible, and touch the places that inspired poets and composers.
Starting Point: Tabor Gate
Address: Vyšehrad, V Pevnosti, 128 00 Praha 2-Vyšehrad
Among all Prague’s hills, Vysehrad stands apart. It seems to be elevated not only physically but also spiritually – a place where ancient myths, national pride, music, art and… love intertwine. Here, among ancient bastions, shady alleys and panoramic views, history becomes the backdrop for personal memories. And it is here that the perfect space for a romantic walk for two is born.
Vysehrad is not just a fortress, it is the heart of Czech legend. It was from here that Princess Libuše – a wise ruler and prophetess – foretold the birth of a great city, saying: ‘I see a great city whose glory will touch the stars’. But her story is not just a political one. It’s a story about love. About a woman who chose a simple ploughman, Přemysl, to be her husband and king. This is where we begin our journey – with a legend in which love is greater than the throne.
A walk through Vysehrad is a journey through time and emotions. We will pass through the ancient gates of the fortress, as if entering another dimension. Here you can’t hear the noise of the centre, here birds sing, leaves rustle, and it’s as if the earth itself remembers the kisses and tears of those who loved.
Walking through the park we will see the Basilica of St Peter and St Paul. It is a majestic Gothic temple, which from the outside strikes with its silhouette, and inside – calmness and light. Organ music is played here, prayers and confessions hover here. According to legend, a young man once came here to ask the patron saint for his blessing on a love forbidden to his family. He stood there all night until he heard the answer in the morning silence in the form of a ray of light shining through the stained glass window. This place has been called ‘the corner of hope’ ever since.
We will continue our journey through the Vysehrad Cemetery, the place where the greatest figures of Czech culture are buried: composers, writers, actors. But even here it is not goodbye, but remembrance. Each grave has its own love story. One of the most touching is the story of the poet Karel Hynek Mahy, author of the famous romantic poem ‘May’. His beloved Eleonora did not live to a ripe old age, but the poems about her are still read today, and everyone who is in love finds something different in them.
And then there are shady alleys, lime and maple trees, benches by the walls and silence filled with meaning. It’s so easy to talk about important things here. Confessions that you dared not dare to say in a cafe or at home, are somehow especially easy to say here. Simple words become eternal. Many couples choose this place to propose marriage. And Vysehrad seems to smile back at them.
Then we will go to the observation deck. Even those who have lived in Prague for a long time are amazed by the views from here. Bridges, domes, red roofs, the winding ribbon of the Vltava River… And all this is under your feet, like a map of fate. The guide will tell you about famous Czech lovers who have been here, composers who found inspiration at this very height, who wrote letters to their lovers sitting on these very benches.
We will recall the love stories of the composer Bedřich Smetana, whose monument stands in the shade of an old tree. His wife Katarzyna died young, but he carried her image through his life, dedicating his most lyrical melodies to her. Here they sound in silence, even if there is no music.
And at the end – glasses of cold champagne. On the edge of the fortress wall, overlooking the magical Prague, you can celebrate a moment: love, a meeting, an anniversary or simply the fact that you are here – the two of you.
This walk is not just a tour. It is a quiet celebration of love. It’s an opportunity to stop, feel, look into each other’s eyes and remember why you once chose each other.
Do you want this day to stay with you forever? Come to Vysehrad. Here history loves those who love.
And Prague will be a witness to your love.
Important! Recommendations for a comfortable journey :
To make a walk in Prague a pleasure, choose comfortable shoes and clothes according to the weather. The city’s cobblestones and hilly streets require comfortable footwear, and the changeable weather means being prepared for surprises. It’s worth taking warm clothes in the cooler seasons, and a hat and sunglasses in summer. Don’t forget an umbrella – it can start raining unexpectedly in Prague.
The tour includes a long walk, but it will be comfortable even for unprepared travellers. It is only important to take care of a small rucksack for personal belongings and a bottle of water in advance.
Lunch is not included, but the guide will be happy to recommend tried and tested restaurants with traditional Czech cuisine where you can enjoy the best local specialities.
With these simple tips, the walk will be even more enjoyable and your Prague experience will be unforgettable!
