Starting Point: Strahov Monastery

Address: Strahovské nádvoří 126/8, 118 00 Praha 1-Hradčany

Prague is a city that is impossible not to fall in love with. Its streets breathe history, ancient bridges connect the ages, and every square holds memories of kings, alchemists, artists and dreamers. We will embark on an unforgettable journey through the most picturesque corners of the Czech capital, where grandeur and romance lurk around every corner. This walk will take us from monastic silence and majestic palaces to cosy streets, lively squares and famous sights that make Prague one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe.

Our tour begins at the Strahov Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the Czech Republic, where monks have studied theology, philosophy and sciences since the 12th century. This monastery is not only a spiritual centre, but also the keeper of priceless knowledge, including rare manuscripts and ancient works. It was once home to monks who recorded chronicles, studied astronomy and art. Today, Strahov impresses with its grandeur and silence, and its massive walls seem to guard centuries-old wisdom.

Walking a little further, we will come to the observation deck near Strahov, from where we can enjoy a breathtaking view of Prague. A whole world spreads out before us – the red roofs of old houses, the winding ribbon of the Vltava River decorated with elegant bridges, the spires of Gothic cathedrals and the towers of medieval palaces. From here you can see how the ancient city combines past and present. You will want to stay here longer to capture this picture in your memory and photos.

The next destination is the Loreto Square, which has an amazing atmosphere. Surrounded by magnificent historical buildings, this place has always attracted pilgrims and travellers. In the centre of the square stands the Loreta, a Baroque complex with elegant facades that has been one of Prague’s main religious centres for centuries. The legendary carillon sounds here, and inside are priceless relics, among them a sparkling diamond offering. We will hear amazing stories about how this complex is connected to royalty and why it has become a symbol of the country’s spiritual heritage.

Moving on, we will arrive at Hradcany Square, surrounded by the majestic palaces of the aristocracy. Here, among the ancient buildings, royal processions took place, and in the luxurious residences the fate of the country was decided. We will talk about the intrigues played out behind the walls of these palaces, which kings left their mark here, and how this square is connected to the history of Prague Castle.

Then we will ascend to Prague Castle, the heart of Bohemia and one of the grandest royal residences in Europe. Here, among the ancient walls, we will feel history come to life – from the first Czech princes to modern presidents. We will stroll around Hrad Square, see famous buildings, learn the secrets of the Old Royal Palace and find out what legends are associated with this place.

In the heart of Prague Castle stands St Vitus Cathedral, a true masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Its majestic spires can be seen from anywhere in the city, and its history spans more than six centuries. Here kings were crowned, crown treasures were stored and the most important state ceremonies were held. We will learn what secrets its walls hide, what the mosaics and stained glass windows tell us, and why this cathedral remains the heart of Czech spiritual life.

Next we will descend to Malá Strana, a charming neighbourhood with a special atmosphere of cosiness and antiquity. Narrow cobbled streets, majestic palaces, ancient lanterns and silence interrupted by the sounds of a street musician’s violin. Here every door, every balcony and every signboard holds memories of the past.

We will approach an unusual modern landmark – a sculpture of peeing boys. This monument, created by the famous Czech sculptor David Černý, evokes a smile and astonishment. Let’s find out how this audacious composition is connected with the country’s history and why it is so popular among tourists.

Walking further, we will enter Prague Venice, a cosy corner of the city where ancient buildings are juxtaposed with narrow canals, creating an atmosphere of secluded beauty. Here, against the backdrop of the water, you can feel the real spirit of old Prague.

Then we will visit the Charles Bridge, Prague’s most famous and most romantic bridge, which has been connecting the banks of the Vltava River for several centuries. We will learn about its construction, the mysterious sculptures that adorn it and the secrets it holds. Here you should make a wish by touching the statue of St John of Nepomuk, because, according to legend, it will definitely come true.

Our journey will continue in Clementinum, once a centre of science and culture. This place is associated with the names of great scientists, it once housed one of the oldest observatories in Europe, and its walls preserve centuries-old knowledge.

Our walk will end at Old Town Square, the heart of the city where eras meet. The Týn Church stands here, and in the centre of the square you can see the famous Orloj, Europe’s oldest astronomical clock. Every hour a crowd gathers here to see the figures of the Holy Apostle and Death come to life, beating the time. We’ll hear the story of their creation, the mysteries surrounding their creator, and learn why their mechanism is considered unique in the world.

At the end of the walk we will once again look back at the majestic Prague, feel its breath and take with us unforgettable impressions. This tour will allow you to see different facets of the city – from royal grandeur to quiet streets, from Gothic power to Baroque elegance. Ready to go on a date with Prague? Then go ahead and experience the beauty, history and inspiration!
