Address: Jungmannovo nám. 15/16, 110 00 Nové Město
Discover Czech cuisine in all its glory! This gastronomic walk will take you to some of Prague’s most legendary restaurants and beer halls, where brewing traditions combine with the unrivalled atmosphere of the old town. You will taste iconic Czech cuisine, sample the best beers, hear the stories of old taverns and get a taste of the real Prague!
How does the tour work?
Your gastronomic adventure starts in the heart of the city at Můstek metro station. From here we will go to the first stop – U Pinkasu restaurant, founded in 1843, when the famous Pilsen beer was first brought here. Real Czech specialities await you here – crispy roulka, tender goulash with dumplings, skvarka and Hermanek cheese. You will learn why Czechs consider beer not just a drink, but a cultural treasure, and what is the real technology of bottling Czech lager, which turns its flavour into perfection.
As we continue on our way, we will stop by U Medvídků, the oldest brewery in Prague, which has existed since the 15th century. This place has a rich history: it used to brew beer for the royal court, and later it became a meeting centre for Prague’s famous artists and writers. Here you will taste X33 – the strongest Czech beer, which is made according to a unique recipe with high wort density. Did you know that the strength of this beer exceeds 12%? This place still uses traditional brewing methods, and the interior of the beer house has preserved its historical authenticity.
The next stop is U Fleků, one of the oldest operating breweries in Europe. Here, brewing traditions have not changed for more than 500 years! This inn is famous for its dark beer, which has been brewed according to a secret recipe since 1499. You will find yourself in an authentic medieval inn where live music is played, waiters wear national costumes and traditional dishes such as sausages, smoked ribs and braised cabbage are served in a setting that immerses you in the past centuries. The place always has a fun, festive atmosphere that will make you feel like a real Czech. Did you know that Franz Kafka himself visited this place?
The final note will be an exquisite dessert in the cosy Cafe Cafe, a place where famous artists, actors and writers like to relax. Here you can enjoy a cup of aromatic Czech coffee and speciality desserts such as Marlenka cake or strudel with vanilla sauce. It’s a great place to summarise your gastronomic journey and once again enjoy the atmosphere of Prague.
Recommendations for a comfortable journey :
To make a walk in Prague a pleasure, choose comfortable shoes and clothes according to the weather. The city’s cobblestones and hilly streets require comfortable footwear, and the changeable weather means being prepared for surprises. It’s worth taking warm clothes in the cooler seasons, and a hat and sunglasses in summer. Don’t forget an umbrella – it can start raining unexpectedly in Prague.
The tour includes a long walk, but it will be comfortable even for unprepared travellers. It is only important to take care of a small rucksack for personal belongings and a bottle of water in advance.
Lunch is not included, but the guide will be happy to recommend tried and tested restaurants with traditional Czech cuisine where you can enjoy the best local specialities.
With these simple tips, the walk will be even more enjoyable and your Prague experience will be unforgettable!
