Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of ancient Prague, where around every corner there are hidden stories of kings, monks and great thinkers. We will follow a route that connects spiritual shrines, aristocratic grandeur and the mysterious silence of old streets. Monastic legends, the chimes of the Loreto, legends of the New World and panoramic views from Hradcany, where the history of the whole of Bohemia was once made. This journey will give you unforgettable impressions, fascinating stories and the feeling of touching eternity.
Starting Point: Strahov Monastery
Address: Strahovské nádvoří 126/8, 118 00 Praha 1-Hradčany
Our journey begins at the walls of the Strahov Monastery, an ancient centre of knowledge and spiritual life, which has been towering over Prague for centuries, like an eternal guardian of history. Its snow-white walls hold many secrets and its towers seem to watch the life of the city as closely as they did hundreds of years ago. We will hear stories of monks who devoted themselves to the study of the universe, of people who sought to unravel the mysteries of the universe, and of books that disappeared from the walls of the monastery under strange circumstances. The centuries-old walls of the monastery remember many events, from enemy raids to secret meetings of great minds who came here for inspiration and truth.
As we continue on our way, we will find ourselves at Loreto, a place where reality and faith intertwine in harmony. Its belfry fills the streets of Hradcany every morning with a melodious chime that, according to legend, can fulfil the most cherished wishes. Legends say that kings, generals and ordinary pilgrims have come here hoping for a sign or protection. Hidden in the depths of this place are precious relics that are the subject of conflicting rumours: some claim that they bring good luck to their owners, others that they are followed by a string of tragedies. But whatever the case, Loreta remains one of Prague’s most mysterious shrines.
Walking down the old stone streets, we will find ourselves in the Nový Svet neighbourhood. This is a quiet, secluded corner, hidden from the noise of tourist trails, where narrow alleys and ramshackle houses seem to be frozen in time. These houses were home to alchemists, scientists, artists and people whose lives were shrouded in mystery. Here, in the semi-darkness of the street lamps, you can still hear tales of night meetings of royal stargazers and people who believed they could control the forces of nature. One of the houses is said to hold more than just books and old manuscripts, and its owner disappeared under mysterious circumstances. We learn why the New World was so attractive to those who sought the truth, and what secrets it still holds today.
Our path will take us to Hradcany, a neighbourhood of royal residences and majestic palaces, where the rulers of Bohemia made crucial decisions. Here, every facade and tower reminds us of the power, intrigues and betrayals that took place behind these walls. Will the blank palace walls tell us about the conspirators’ nightly councils, about letters sent unsigned, about kings whose fates were sealed before sunrise? We will stop in the square surrounded by palaces and imagine how royal corteges entered here, how horses’ hooves clattered on the cobblestone pavement, and courtiers crowded on balconies discussing the latest rumours.
Finally, we will arrive at the gates of Prague Castle, the heart of Bohemia, the largest fortress residence in Europe, a symbol of power and spirituality. This is the place where myths and historical truth come together, where kings were crowned, where prayers were said in honour of new rulers and where royal seals sealed fateful decisions. We will see St. Vitus Cathedral, whose Gothic spires seem to aspire to the heavens, its stained glass windows reflecting the sunlight, creating a play of colours that makes you think of eternity. The walls of the Castle contain royal regalia, legends of hidden treasures and secret signs left by the builders in the stonework. We will walk through the courtyards where knights’ armour clanged, along the streets where ambassadors walked with important reports, and find out what signs of destiny this majestic complex hides.
At the end of the walk, we will climb up to one of the observation platforms, from where we will see an amazing panorama of the city. From here you can see the narrow streets of the Old Town, the wide bridges over the Vltava River and the distant hills that have surrounded Prague for centuries. It is said that whoever looks at this view and thinks of something great is sure to achieve his goal. Maybe you, too, will have a cherished wish that Prague will take under its protection.
